Networking is essential, and not just in terms of computer systems! Before, during, and after your job search, you should focus on expanding and maintaining your professional network. You’ll never know which connections will be helpful, and securing a solid recommendation from your past or current supervisors is incredibly valuable. Make an attempt to attend networking events regularly, and do your best to create meaningful professional relationships with your peers and coworkers.

Narrow Your Expectations…

There are plenty of IT jobs out there, but not every opportunity is the right fit for you. Consider the things that are important to you in a new job, such as its benefits, industry, and responsibilities. Knowing what you are looking for in a new job can help you narrow your search and make your application efforts more fruitful. 

… But Keep Them Realistic

While it is crucial to have a set of criteria to keep in mind during your job search, you cannot expect to get a corner office and six-figure salary for your first job out of school. Keep your expectations reasonable for someone in your sector and with your level of experience. It would be best if you also were flexible whenever possible. While some folks can find (and get) the perfect job for them, you may find that the opportunities that do not meet your criteria exactly are excellent positions with chances for growth.

Many businesses slow their hiring processes during the holidays, and things tend to pick back up in January. Hiring managers are getting back to work, and so should you.
